Chapter 3.3

“That's my car,” Rosemarie said as it dawned on her. “That's my stuff!”
Georgi stopped the car and Rosemarie hopped out.
“What the fuck are you doing? The Zombies could still be here!” Randy yelled after her.
“Shut it, crazy. This is vandals not zombies,” Rosemarie snapped.
“Then why wasn’t anything stolen?” he threw up his hands. “Because zombies don’t eat food!
“And what the fuck do you call this?” Rosemarie said as she pointed at the food wrappers.
“Bears got into the food after the zombies broke the window.”
“Listen to yourself! Do you know how psycho you sound?” she yelled. “Maybe someone chased the vandals off! Then the bears came."
“You’ll see. They’re out there.” Randy trained his gun at the woods. “Then you’ll owe me an apology.”
“What the fuck ever, dipshit,” she mumbled.
She signaled Georgi who popped the trunk. “Leave Alex with Murphy. We can handle this,” Rosemarie called back. She took out the gas can and dumped the contents in her tank.
“Oh wow,” Georgi said as she looked over the damage.
“Yeah,” Rosemarie said. “Someone had a party. We can go through this stuff when we get back.” She started the car and, after some difficulty, pulled back on the road.
Georgi opened Rosemarie’s door. “You’ve got a hole in your tire!”
“Damn it! This day just keeps getting better.” Rosemarie growled  as she turned  off the ignition. “We’ll have to pull the crap off the spare.”
“What are you doing?” Randy asked.
“We’re going to throw a party for the zombies. I'm looking for the clown suit,” Rosemarie snapped.
"She's looking for the spare," Georgi said.
“You've got to be kidding me!” Randy barked. “We don’t have time for this. Drive it like it is!”
“It’ll ruin my rim,” Rosemarie said through gritted teeth as she glared at him.
There was an almost crazed look in his eye. “Rosemarie, we're in danger!
“Momma,” Alex's small voice came from the car. “What's that?”
They turned to look.
“Oh my God,” Georgi shrieked.
A man with a head wound was limping toward them. His arm hanging at an unnatural angle from a break.
“Shit!” Rosemarie gasped. She instinctively moved toward him. “Don’t worry sir, I have first aid training!”
Bang! Bang!
The bullet hit his chest, the second hit him in the head. The man crumpled to the ground like a sack of potatoes.
As he hit the ground, the wind was knocked out of Rosemarie.
“What. The. Fuck!” she yelled as her breath came back. “You killed that guy!”
“It was a zombie,” he said, agitated.
“He was injured!” she screamed.
“Did you even see that thing? It was a shambling zombie!” he growled as he walked back to the car.
“No!” Georgi stopped him. “You’re not getting in there with my kid.”
“Georgiana, come on! I just saved our lives!” he snapped.
“You just killed a man!” Rosemarie yelled.
“It wasn’t a man, it was a zombie!” he waved the gun around wildly.
“Let's just calm down a minute,” Georgi held her hands out as if she were trying to calm a spooked horse. “Rosemarie, get in my car.”
Giving the trigger happy crazy man wide berth, Rosemarie climbed in.
"Give me your keys." Georgi said to her.
Rosemarie handed them over and looked nervously back to Randy as Georgi walked to him.
"Drive her car back. We need to go check on my uncle."
"It's not safe," he growled. "I should go with you."
"I'll honk the horn. If he doesn't come out, we'll leave. I promise," she said.
He nodded, got in Rosemarie’s car, and drove off.
Georgi trotted back. "Alex, are you okay?”
“Yes, ma’am.” she said. “Did Daddy really kill a bear?”
Georgi glanced at Rosemarie and she nodded.
“Yeah, honey. Lay down in the back seat and close your eyes until I tell you can open them.” she said.
She didn’t tell Alex that she could open them until they were well out of sight.
“We’re gonna call the police from the neighbor’s house,” she whispered to Rosemarie. “We’ve got to report this.”
Rosemarie nodded.
“The McMahans live down a piece. We'll use their phone,” said Georgi. Her knuckles whitened as she gripped the wheel.
